Iorio Announces Tampa's Gold Green Local Government Designation

Mayor Pam Iorio stood at Tampa’s City Hall Plaza to announce the City’s Gold-level Certified Green Local Government designation by the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGCB). Tampa, the second city in Florida to achieve this designation, joins Tallahassee, Orange and Sarasota Counties as the local governments in the state to achieve the gold level.

Numerous initiatives helped the City of Tampa earn the prestigious designation including the LED traffic signal program, the use of alternative fuels, hybrid cars, and energy audits. Tampa also strives to lead by example by adopting its own green cleaning and maintenance practices as well as making United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) Silver green-building standards the official minimum criteria for future government buildings in excess of 5,000 square feet. The City encourages green building in the commercial and residential sector by offering incentives for buildings that meet the FGBC and LEED standards.
