Toilet Rebate Applications Temporarily Outpace Available Funding

If you recently submitted a toilet rebate application to Hillsborough County's Water Resource Division (formerly Water Resource Services), be patient.
The popular toilet replacement program has distributed the $70,000 allotted for rebates this fiscal year. Applications from qualified individuals are being held for rebates until the next fiscal year begins on Oct. 1.
The program offers an incentive to County water customers to swap older-model toilets for water-saving, ultra-low-flow models. This year's program replaced 665 toilets at 475 locations, saving a collective 9,000 gallons per day of water.
Since the program's inception in 1993, more than 79,000 toilets in 55,000 homes, businesses and other buildings have been replaced, saving more than 1 million gallons of water a day. A low-flow toilet uses only 1.6 gallons per flush, versus older toilets which use up to 5 gallons of water per flush.
