Historic 1850 Land Surveys Now Available!

U.S General Land Office Surveys from 1845-1879 are now available for viewing in the Advanced Mapping Application.

These township plat maps were created by surveyors working for the U.S. General Land Office Survey (GLOS). In Florida, the GLOS survey was begun in the 1830s while Florida was still a territory; they continued until 1880 and were conducted by eleven different surveyors. The maps and their accompanying field notes represent the only detailed, systematically collected information sources about the predevelopment landscapes of Florida, when hydrological and ecological processes were largely intact.
