Mango water project subject of Oct. 29th meeting
Public Meeting on Oct. 29 to Discuss New Water Pipelines in Area of Williams Road, U.S. Highway 92
The Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department has scheduled a public meeting on Oct. 29 to discuss two projects that will construct new water pipelines in the area of Williams Road and U.S. Highway 92 in Mango.
The projects will improve water quality and service reliability in the area, and include:
- construction of approximately 6,400 feet of 12-inch water pipeline along Williams Road, from Bartolotti Loop south to U.S. 92 (Hillsborough Avenue), as well as the installation of additional fire hydrants;
- construction of approximately 5,100 feet of 12-inch water pipeline along U.S. 92, from Williams Road to a connection approximately 660 feet west of County Road 579 (Mango Road);
- construction of approximately 1,500 feet of 6-inch water main along Mobile Villa Drive, from U.S. 92 to Old Hillsborough Avenue; and
- installation of additional fire hydrants along U.S. 92 and Mobile Villa Drive.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2014. The combined cost of the two projects is
$3.3 million and is funded through the Water Enterprise’s Capital Improvement Program.
The work is part of the Countywide Potable Water Main/Distribution Lines Renewal and Replacement Project, a long-term program to improve water quality by connecting certain lines that now dead end. Water in these lines can stagnate, causing poor taste and odor. Utility crews must regularly flush the dead-end lines, using large amounts of water and labor. A looped system also provides more reliable service.
New pipeline segments also will provide an opportunity for those residents who are currently served by drinking water wells to connect to the County’s utility system, if they choose.
Staff from the Public Utilities Department will be at the meeting to answer questions about the projects.
DATE: Tuesday, Oct. 29
